How AxiomEHR Improves Productivity: ‘Just Ask My Avatar’

Chatbots can take multiple forms. They pop up on consumer websites and pretend to be customer service people. Or you can ask a chatbot like ChatGPT just about anything – give me a recipe, write me a program, advise me on window treatments – and you’ll get a succinct, eerily conversational answer that’s miles better than Google’s search results.

Now, in our new AxiomEHR software, our customers have chatbots for integrated health care, and they’re a big hit. We designed the software to create digital interactive avatars for every patient. Clinicians, case managers, and other authorized staffers can speak with the avatar just as they would the real human patient that it represents. The avatar, powered by generative AI, answers in natural language.

Responses draw on all the patient data that’s been captured on the patient to date. So it’s actually like talking to the patient. For example:

This is a powerful functionality. There’s far less wayward searching than clicking through screens. Clinicians do need to confirm that avatars are providing accurate information (as with any generative AI model), especially in serious situations. Yet in the majority of cases, querying an avatar gives providers good information they would otherwise have to dig for or go without. By refreshing the case manager or therapist with the patient’s updated story when it’s needed, providers will be far better prepared to help patients.

Patient chatbots aren’t the only chatbots in AxiomEHR. The software also includes chatbots that enable executives to query all non-private information in the system for insights on operations, trends, and business performance.
